The Sephora lipstories set is a set of six lipsticks from the Sephora Collection that I picked up in store during the holidays. As I saw them I knew I had to get them. The packaging was just way too cute to pass up.

The set is specifically curated with lipsticks that has a range of different colors and finishes that is perfect for various special occasions.

This set was actually targeted as a holiday set with four matte finishes, one cream and one metallic.

I’ve tried Sephora brand lipsticks before and though their matte formula was not the best at the time, I feel like they have come a long way. There is still room for improvement when it comes to their matte lipsticks but their cream finishes are amazing.

Like any cream finished lipsticks, they will transfer throughout the day but these do leave a subtle color behind if you don’t want to reapply them.

Personally I would have preferred more of the cream finishes than the matte finishes because I have dryer lips. There was only one cream finish lipstick in the set but that just means that I will have to do a little extra lip care for the matte lipsticks.

These lipsticks are super inexpensive compared to a lot of other lipsticks that you would consider ‘luxury’. I think that the Sephora collection hits that sweet mid spot between drugstore and luxury at $8 a piece.

Thought the matte lipsticks were not the most comfortable I’ve felt, they do last for a very decent time without flaking or feathering.

Let’s dig into the swatches of each shade:

Celebrate

This is a matte finish lipstick with a fuchsia like color that is just stunning. Of all my bold lipsticks apart from red, a fuchsia is like my second favorite.

Festival Lights

Festival Lights is a gorgeous nude like metallic shade. This was the only metallic shade in the set.

I like that the metallic in there was not overpowering. It had a beautiful, flattering look when the light bounced off of it.

Landing in Shanghai

Landing in Shangai is the only cream finish shade in the set. It is a more soft nude finish with that comfortable creamy swipe.

The only thing is that this shade was the only one that didn’t quite compliment my complexion. The only way to make it work will be to tweak it with another color or to use a darker lip liner.

A Little Magic

A Little Magic is a vibrant matte red lipstick that I was super excited to swatch.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust is that perfect color of lipstick to pair with your darkest winter moods.

I love that the packaging picture is hot chocolate with marshmallows. It’s pretty much self explanatory of winter moods.

Wanderlust is a dark berry color that is perfect for any dark glam makeup look.

Golden Gate

Golden Gate is another beautiful pigmented berry tone with a matte finish. Berry tones are always a popular color for the holidays so it definitely made sense to include a couple of them in the set.

Even if berry tones are too bold for you, you can always try the more muted colors like Landing in Shanghai and Festival Lights.
