I Tried LipSense – Is it Worth the Hype?

If you haven’t heard about LipSense by now then you’re either living in a cave somewhere or on another planet because they are literally all over the internet and Instagram and there’s a huge hype about the product. I recently got sent one of their lip colors to test and try in exchange for an honest review.

So here it goes, LipSense is a three piece lip applicator system that comes with the Lip Color, the Lip Gloss and the Remover.

They claim to be Smudge Proof, Kiss Proof and Water Proof. Does it really work? Is it really worth all the hype? Well, let’s find out…

My LipSense package came in a cute little bag with decorative paper and with a set of very specific instructions for application which was very helpful.

The lip color that I received is called Fly Girl which is like a deep red on my skin tone.

I made sure that my lips were clean and dry before application. While applying my first layer, I did immediately feel a little tingling that went away after a while. I did follow the instructions and waited 5 to 10 seconds for it to dry before applying my other two layers. After the last layer dried I applied the Lip Gloss and the results were not what I expected. Without the Lip Gloss it would just be dull and dry on the lips.  It’s like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly…it just doesn’t work. The lip gloss is a must! It made everything come together giving me a very vibrant and sexy look.

Here is a video of me trying it out:

I did put this lipstick through the test of time. I ate plenty of different things throughout the day like chips, nachos, cookies and also drank coffee and other fluids and left no lip stain on my coffee mug or straw. The smudge proof is definitely real. Later in the day I  went to the gym, even though I was the only one with my lipstick popping while working out. Hey! There’s nothing wrong with looking fly at the gym. However, after and hour and a half I did manage to work up a sweat and the lipstick still held up well for the most part.

As you can see from the picture, my lips weren’t as glossy as before but keep in mind that at that time it was going on 6 hours and I didn’t reapply any lip gloss, which you are suppose to do throughout the day, but I wanted to see how long I could go without reapplying the lip gloss. Another thing is that the lipstick started disappearing on my waterline on the inside of my bottom lip, not that it was obvious, so it really wasn’t a big deal for me.

When I got home after the gym, I did apply some lip gloss to get rid of that dry feeling and the lipstick looked like I had put on a fresh coat. I was impressed! This is a photo taken from my Instagram Stories right after I reapplied my lip gloss for the first time.

First Lip Gloss Reapplication

First Lip Gloss Reapplication

I had fun testing out this lipstick from LipSense. I’m always in search of a new lip product that can work wonders and LipSense definitely did that for me. The wear that this lipstick provides is unbelievable and I would definitely make it part of my collection.

If you’re thinking about adding LipSense to your collection here are some things to think about:

Pros

  1. Wear; It does literally lasts for hours; I didn’t test it for up to 18 hours because after 10 hours without any other lipstick application I was sold.
  2. No Reapplication Required; If you’re going to an event and don’t want to worry about your lipstick smudging and wearing off then LipSense is the way to go. All you need is the Lip Gloss.
  3. No Animal Testing; Cruelty free, Lead Free, and Vegan

Cons

  1. Price; It is on the pricier side but now I know that the benefits of the lipstick and it’s long lasting power can justify that.
  2. Time; The application of the lipstick takes a bit more time than your normal lipsticks because you have to wait for the coats to dry in between which can be time consuming.
  3. Tingling/Alcohol Content; There is a little tingling when you first apply it but it goes away very quickly. There was also a slight alcohol smell but it wasn’t overpowering at all.

All in all am I impressed with LipSense? Yes! Will I recommend it? Yes! Did it do everything that it claimed? Yes, and then some!

Be a Show Off

Rimmel London Show Off

I received this fabulous Rimmel London Lip Velvet – 307 Meteoric Matte lip stain in a beauty box subscription and I thought I’d share. I’ve been using it for the past couple of weeks to test how long it lasts and I must say that the vibrancy of the color does last for up to 8 hours. Naturally, there will be some fading but in my opinion even with the little fading it was still popping.

I am very satisfied with the finish of this product on my lips as well. It’s not sticky or gunky and has a velvety finish. I did however, experience some dryness but that’s because of the matte finish. Nothing a little lip balm before application can’t fix. You can go about with your normal day eating and drinking and not having to reapply for up to eight hours.

This is also a perfect lip stain just in time for Thanksgiving and the holidays for those who are not yet comfortable flaunting bold red lips. This is a perfect substitution color that universally flatters every skin tone.

Puckers to you xoxo.

Lovely Lilac Lips

I had fell in love with my first L’Oreal lip stain Incessant Russet that I set out to find another color and ended up with this amazing shade called Lilac Infinite. Shades of purple definitely pop on my complexion and that is why I thought this one would’ve been a winner – and it surely was. I love my Incessant Russet as well but I find that this Lilac Infinite is a lot less drying. I only re-applied the moisturizing top coat twice, whereas for the Incessant Russet, I had to re-apply it several times.

It also lasted all day that I had to scrub it off my lips with my lip scrub at the end of the night because just plain water or makeup remover didn’t get it done. This is definitely a long wear and is worth every penny. I cant wait to try out another of their amazing shades. Try it out and let me know what you think.

I got this e.l.f. Lip Stain on impulse buy, which happens to me more than I would like, because I thought the name sounded really cute, so the swatch must be amazing and sure enough, like many times before, I was very disappointed with this product. Firstly, I would start with the pros and those are that it was affordable and the pointy pen-like tip made application very easy for a sleek, smudge free lip.

I hated everything else about this lip stain. It was very dry from the minute I opened it and applied it to my lips. I also tried to wet the tip a little bit so that the product would come out. Eventually, that helped out a little and was able to get some color on my lips. The color was not vibrant at on my lips. I needed the shade to be a little brighter because I thought it washed me out. Then, it only lasted for about an hour and a half before the color started disappearing. I will not be buying this product again. I still, however, do enjoy a few products from e.l.f. and my Lip Exfoliator is one of them.

Ravishing Incessant Russet

L'Oreal Incessant Russet 219

L’Oreal Incessant Russet 219

L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro-Last Lipcolor is a lip stain that is similar to the Covergirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor that I’ve used in the past with it’s two step application. It has two sides, the lip color on one end and a hydrating lip balm on the other end.

L'Oreal Incessant Russet 219

L’Oreal Incessant Russet 219

I bought this in the shade Incessant Russet 219 and is sort of a reddish brownish color on my lips. It’s a vibrant color that can easily transition from sultry daytime to sexy night time. In my opinion, I do prefer Covergirl’s Outlast Lip Color to this one because the color seemed to last a lot longer throughout the day as I ate and drank. With L’Oreal’s Pro-Last, the color faded quickly especially in the center of my lips. I also found myself having to re-apply the lip color and the lip balm a few times because the color fades and it’s not as intense. It also had a tendency to get very dry and flaky, which was also true for the Covergirl outlast, but this one seemed to happen faster.

I guess it would last 24 hours if we excluded activities such as eating and drinking, but if you feel like you wouldn’t be annoyed with re-applying the lip color and lip balm then you might wanna give it a try because the color is fantastic. D,  however, exfoliate your lips before applying which would decrease the flaking and give you a longer wear. What’s your favorite L’Oreal Lip Stain?. Post your comments and pics. Puckers to you xoxo.

Sultry Daytime Lipstick

If you’re looking for that one lip color to revamp your lipstick collection then Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in shade Napa Vineyard will do the trick. Burgundy colored lipsticks have lately become my new fave and is a shade that I find myself wearing more often to work and even dinner. It is the perfect shade to transition from day to night which is a must have for every woman.

It’s 100% natural and went on very smoothly on my lips. I did prep my lips before with my brown sugar and olive oil mixture and then put a very thin layer of my Carmex Lip Balm to lock in the moisture. This lip crayon stayed on during my entire time at  work, even through lunch and some snacks in between. I paid around $9 for the stick but it’s definitely worth it. Try it out and let me know what you think. Puckers to you xoxo.

Cover Girl Outlast All Day Lip Color 538 Wine To Five

Cover Girl Outlast 24hr Lip Color

Cover Girl Outlast 24hr lip Color in shade 538

While shopping for a new lip stain, I came across the Cover Girl 24 hour all day Lip Color in shade 538 Wine To Five and decided to give it a try. It’s packaged with two separate pieces, the lip color and a moisturizing topcoat. The instructions on the package stated that you should apply to clean lips so make sure to exfoliate those puckers before applying. Also, you should not rub lips together at least sixty seconds so that the lip color can set.

I have to say that I’m in love with this lip color. I had put it on at noon and around nine that same day the color was still vibrant. The only thing is that it does tend to cause dry lips because of the matte finish but that can be easily fixed with the moisturizing topcoat that came with it. You may need to apply the topcoat several times which can be somewhat of a hassle but nevertheless, it’s nothing I’m not willing to put up with. I also wish that there was more product in the tube. I’ve used it a few times and it seems like it’s already running low, especially for the price they are going for at the drugstores which was around $8.00.

So because the package stated that it lasts for 24 hours, I decided to test it out and went to bed without taking it off. The following morning, to my surprise, it was still intact so with that said, it’s definitely worth giving a try.
